Colorado River Legislation
The mighty Colorado and its tributaries stretch for a total of around 1,450 miles through the United States states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico, and California, while also flowing through the Mexican states of Baja California and Sonora. None of these states are known for their bountiful rainfall, so the generally freshwater Colorado River's importance to western agriculture cannot be understated.
The Colorado River is, therefore, subject to an immense amount of political scrutiny. Each state (and country) has their own individual interest in the river's water, and their own political interests representing that need in legislative debate.
